Rootpile began with a simple dream: to hear a fiddle tune drifting across the Playa.

In the early years of Burning Man, most music came from DJs and sound camps. A small group of musicians wondered what would happen if someone brought a banjo, a fiddle, and a few friends to the desert.

That experiment became Rootpile.

What started as a jam circle, grew into a community — a place where Bluegrass, old-time music, and dancing could live alongside art cars, sculptures, and the surreal landscape of Black Rock City.

Rootpile has always been about gathering people around something simple: music, food, and shared effort.

Over the years, the camp has evolved, but the spirit remains the same — a dusty little corner of Burning Man where strangers become bandmates and neighbors become family.
